Why Your SEO Expert Wants You to Blog

You hired an SEO expert to help improve your search engine rankings and bring traffic to your site. It's a wise business move, and one that can bring in lots more sales. Your initial impression was that this work would be done once, and that once your website was updated and indexed through the major search engines, you'd be finished. But, now, you find out that your SEO expert thinks you should be blogging. Here's why.

Search engines use what are called spiders to find websites to include in their results. These spiders look for the keywords that the searcher used. They look specifically in your titles, headers, anchor text and Metatags. The more they find, the higher your rank, put in simple terms. That's why your SEO expert is ensuring that your keywords are in all the right places.

How Can SEO Help Your Business?

If you are operating an online business you need to know how Search Engine Optimization can help your venture develop. Whether you have products and services to sell, are trying to generate some money through affiliate marketing, or simply have a content website that you need good traffic flows for, a robust SEO campaign will be fundamental to its success. So, how can SEO help your business exactly?

First of all it is important to understand what SEO is. As the name suggests, it is the system for ensuring your website is optimized for display in search engines. This doesn't only mean giving your website excellent visibility, but also ensuring it is rated and indexed correctly. It also means making your website a valuable resource to these search engines. The more valuable your site, the higher ranked it will be and the further up the list of results it will appear.

3 Steps to SEO Heaven

Time for a back to basics SEO primer. It's the start of a New Year and rather than getting all carried away with the latest greatest algorithm speculation or complex SEO insights, the Google Caffeine update and other detailed SEO analysis, now is as good a time as any to take a step back and do a quick screen refresh on some of the SEO basics that may be slipping under the radar.

Here are 3 fundamental steps to SEO heaven:

How to SEO Your Make-Money Website

In case you don't know, SEO stands for search engine optimization. This means that you would make your site to be visible to search engine such as Google, Yahoo, Bing and others.

There are 2 ways by which you can drive traffic to your website. One is by being social and the other is by search engine. By being social, that means that you have to be active in forums, blogs, Facebook and Twitter. This might take a good portion of your time. But with search engine traffic, you don't have to do anything, and you still make sales. Is that not great? The only work you would have to do is to SEO your website in the initial stage. Then later, you would just maintain your site.

Onsite SEO For Better Rankings in Google

Professional search engine optimization services can make a big difference in terms of quality traffic to your web site and improved rankings. Such services can save a lot of time for you, and eventually generate a great cash flow as a result of improving your web site and making it friendly for both search engines and users.

Website and content development, website content and/or structure revision, keyword research and link-building campaigns are some of the most useful SEO services that can help you fuel the growth of your online business and stay ahead of your competitors.

It is a well known fact that having a well designed website is not all it takes to receive quality traffic. No matter how informative your site might be, it will generate little or no traffic in the absence of an effective search engine optimization campaign. The first step to be taken towards making your web site search engine friendly is onsite optimization. On site SEO, coupled with an efficient link building campaign is very likely to boost the traffic to your website and improve your rankings with the major search engines.

One of the most important factors in onsite optimization is the keyword research process. It is more than obvious that, in order for your keywords to be effective, they need to be closely related to the information on your site regarding products and/or services. Furthermore, your keywords or keywords phrases should be present in the content of your web site, either as words or as images.

Another aspect to consider when launching an onsite SEO campaign is the web pages title tag. The title should be different for each page of your website, it should not exceed sixty characters in length, and, of course, it should contain your targeted keywords.

A good on site SEO project should also include meta keywords and meta description. As far as meta keywords go, it is now widely believed that they are no longer as important as they used to be. Nevertheless, the major search engines still monitor meta keywords, which should be present on each of your web pages, separated by commas. It is advisable that the same number of meta keywords be used on each web page, not just the first one.

As for meta description, it plays an equally important part in optimizing your web site for search engines. Ideally, the meta description, which is a summary of the content of each web page, should be a balanced and neutral description of about two hundred characters and should also include your targeted keywords in a moderate manner.

An effective onsite SEO project should also focus on the body text, as well as on creating a sitemap and submitting it to all search engines. What's more, checking keyword density and broken links is a step that should definitely not be overlooked when attempting to optimize your site.

The above presentation is nothing but a brief description of what a good onsite optimization campaign should include. There is a lot to be said about each of the steps enumerated above, not to mention all the other tools and strategies that can be employed to generate quality traffic to your web site. One thing's for sure, though. On site SEO is extremely important, no matter how good the design or how relevant the information on your site might be. Therefore, using expert SEO services for your onsite SEO project is highly recommended.

SEO Elite Review - Does SEO Elite Fail Miserably?

on Friday, February 19, 2010

Are you keen to increase your search engine rankings? There are numerous software tools out there that can help you achieve that. The most famous of which is Brad Callen's SEO Elite, a highly-respected software tool in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) industry.

Firstly, it must be made known that SEO Elite by itself alone will not catapult your website to Google's first page. A solid knowledge of the fundamentals of SEO helps greatly. Also, relevant content on your website also helps.

SEO Elite helps in one very important facet of achieving high search engine rankings: that of building link popularity. Link popularity is a key component of off page SEO that you should focus on.
Building your site's link popularity involves increasing the number and quality of websites that will link back to yours. This, of course is easier said than done.

SEO Elite helps immensely in this respect. It analyzes backlinks in all the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista and AllTheWeb. This saves you a great deal of time.

Another plus point of SEO Elite is that you can check out your competition's linking strategy. This is another invaluable feature. In a matter of minutes, you can find out a competing website's complete linking strategy as well as any kind of SEO optimization tricks they may be implementing. You can find out:

1. All the different kinds of anchor text they are using in their incoming links
2. What is their website's keyword density
3. What is the Page Rank of the websites linking to them
As you can see, this is valuable information that you can use right away.

You can find out whether they are using H1, H2 tags and whether they are using meta tags if any. Basically what SEO Elite provides you is a blueprint you can use to start ranking high on any of the popular search engines.

If all that isn't enough you can also use SEO Elite to find high Page Rank sites and directories to submit your site to. The software will even automatically do your submissions for you. Again, you save time!
There are far too many benefits and features to list here. SEO Elite is really the combination of many software. Each feature is really a piece of software on its own. I highly recommend SEO Elite.

Bing SEO Tips Explained

Microsoft's new Bing search engine will change the way we all have to approach SEO. With the introduction of Bing, gone are those days when you have to submit your site to search engines or get links from various sources just to be indexed on the search engines.

With the release of Bing, the first thing that online marketers want to inquire is to how to get their websites on the top of the results page of the search engine. Here are some SEO tips for Bing, which will help marketers to get noticed on Bing.

To make it to the top of Bing, make sure to have a title that correlates to the subject at hand. You must also link out. Many marketers do not favor linking out because they fear that their page rank will be lowered, especially with Google.

Try to add more and more text. In most search engines, the amount of text on the page usually is not usually a huge factor. However, Bing really likes pages with at least 350 words of text.

Bing appears to put a lot of stock into how long ago a domain was registered. For marketers, this means that you may look to purchase older domains if you want to get on good position in Bing.

Try using only the well-formed HTML codes in your web pages. You should always ensure to close all the paired tags and should see that all links open the correct webpage. For information on validating your HTML code, you can see either HTTP Conditional Get test tool or HTTP Compression or W3C Markup Validation Service. If your website contains broken link then MSNBot might not be able to index your website effectively, thereby preventing people from reaching all of your web pages. To find more information on finding broken links on your website you can see the Help topic for the Webmaster Center's Crawl Issues tool.

If you have moved a web page then you must set up the webpage's original URL to redirect people to the new webpage. Also, indicate whether the move is permanent or temporary.

You have to make sure MSNBot is allowed to crawl your website and is not on your list of web crawlers that are prohibited from indexing your website. For more information on this, you can see Control which web pages on your website are indexed.

You should use a Robots.txt file or tags to control how MSNBot and other web crawlers index your website. You can use the Robots.txt file to prevent web crawlers from crawling specific files and folders.

Keep all your URLs static and simple. URLs that are complicated or that change frequently are difficult to index as link destinations. In addition, a URL that does not change is easy for people to remember and bookmark. That makes your webpage a more likely link destination from other websites.

You should watch for malicious software. Watch out for the links to web pages on your website that lead to malware on third-party websites or contains malicious content, such as a maliciously corrupted document or image file, or a harmful JavaScript or ActiveX control, will be disabled and highlighted as Malware in Bing results web pages.

In the end, it is very important to get more links to your site in terms of quantity as well as quality and to make sure that your website's content matches that with your keywords.

Essential Small Business SEO Tips

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) can be an expensive endeavour for small business owners who choose to outsource this marketing function. However, there are some steps you can take to bring many of the elements in-house and reduce your agency or consultancy fees. These include:

Taking Control of Your Site Content

If you have a 5 page website, don't expect to rank number one on highly competitive key phrases any time soon. Search engines love new content, so "flat" structured sites, featuring no deep content, rare updates, and poor internal linking structures will not perform well. The most successful sites on the web often feature thousands of pages, so you need to put in place a plan to develop your content on a weekly, or better still, daily basis.

Set Yourself Realistic Objectives

If you're launching a new website about mortgages, don't expect your site to rank on page one for the keyword "mortgages" in any short period of time. It can take many months for businesses with very large marketing budgets to achieve page one results on competitive terms such as this. Instead, try and identify your niche. What kind of mortgages are you offering? What age group of demographic are you targeting? Whereabouts are your customers based? These questions will help you to inform your keyword research.

Target the Long-Tail

The long-tail can be defined as those keywords which have low search volumes with high intent for sales. Targeting these keywords can be a very effective SEO strategy for small business owners. Long tail keywords are generally 4 or more words long. An example would be "mortgages for over 50s". At the opposite end of the tail are your head keywords which are normally 1 or 2 keywords long. An example would be "mortgages". Using keyword research tools to identify high intent, long-tail search terms will help you to define the right strategy for your niche.

Add as much Relevant Content as Possible

Keep generating lots of content featuring both your long-tail and head search terms. By doing so on a frequent basis you should secure page one results for your long-tail target keywords with 2 to 3 months (so long as your site is engineered efficiently and you combine this with other SEO work such as link-baiting or building). If your content is good quality, over time Google will identify your site as an authority on your topic making it a likelier possibility for you to eventually rank on your head keywords. Remember, this requires consistency and can take months or possibly even years of content development work, dependent upon your budget.

Target Local Search

Use keyword tools such as Word Tracker, or try running a Google AdWords campaign to identify the kinds of keywords people use to locate your products or services on a local level. If you run a locksmith in Haywards Heath, try targeting the terms "locksmith Haywards Heath" or "locksmiths in East Sussex". You're much more likely to achieve a result on these terms than you are on the generic term "locksmiths".

Install a Blog on your Website

Blog publishing platforms such as Word Press are very search engine friendly and can be customised easily by adding SEO plug-ins. Blogging about your services is another great way to target the long-tail and once your blog is "trusted" by the search engines it's not unusual for your posts to be indexed in a matter of minutes. This is because search engines love new content.

Install Analytics, Learn and Be Patient

Make sure you install Google Analytics or other web analytics software. You need to keep a close eye on the bounce rate of your landing pages (where users visit your site and leave immediately). If your bounce rate is too high your landing page content is clearly low in relevance, credibility or quality and you need to do something about it. Sites with high bounce rates will not perform well in the search engines in the long term. Use web analytics to help you optimise your website performance and engage your site visitors. Use these tools to learn, keep implementing the necessary changes, be patient, and over time you will see improvements. The essence of effective small business SEO is to take control of your content and its performance.

SEO Tips - What's More Important Between Title and Description?

Let's face it, SEO is a complicated mess. Anybody who says otherwise is seriously kidding themselves. With all the variables involved, can you believe that title and description probably cause more arguments than just about anything else? It's true. Everybody has their two cents on which is more important. Well, this marketer is going to give you his two cents on the subject. Take it for what it's worth to you.

There is no question that the title of your site is important. After all, if you're fortunate enough to get listed (not always a given) that is going to be the first thing that people see. So granted, you need a title that clearly defines what people are going to see there. So for example, let's say you have a site that is on Internet Marketing Tips. You're going to want THAT to be your title. That way, if people see it in the SERPs, they'll know that going there HOPEFULLY will give them tips on THAT subject.

However, because there are so many sites with the same darn titles (go do a search if you think I'm kidding) what happens is that searchers develop a blindness to them. Think about it. If you did a search for Internet Marketing Tips and the first 20 results in the SERPs all had the same title, what do you think would happen? You'd probably just glaze over all of them OR...and this is where the description comes in...you'd look to see who had the BEST description.

Okay, but what IS the best description? That is something that is impossible to qualify for any site no matter what the niche is. The reason is because now we're really getting into the area of copywriting. Simply changing your description and waiting for the SERPs to index your page with the new one can literally mean the difference between 1,000 visitors a month and 10,000 visitors a month.

But now I'm going to throw another monkey wrench into the fire, which is why you can't say for certain that description is more important than title. See, Google, in all their infinite wisdom, does not always print your description tag as is. They will sometimes print a description based on certain content from your page that they feel is most relevant to the prospect. If you think I'm kidding, go check out a few web pages and see how they're listed. It's almost laughable.

Therefore, since there is no fool proof way to insure that your description is going to appear the way YOU want it, I can't give that meta tag a clear win over title.

So for those of you who pick one over the other, the truth is, it's a crap shoot between the two. But at least the title, you have complete control over. So while it may not help much, should there be 20 pages with the same title, it is at least one variable that you don't have to worry about being messed with by the SERPs.

SEO Tips - Can You Quantify a Page Rank?

Let's just get right down to brass tacks. Can you quantify a page rank? In other words, can you go to the SERPs, look at the first 10 sites on page one, and quantify exactly why each site is in the position it's in? Some folks say yes. I say no. And I'm going to explain why, in no uncertain terms, in this article. I think you will find this very interesting.

I was doing some searching the other day, just for the heck of it. Every now and then I like to see what's out there. Anyway, I did a search for some off the beaten track niche and took a look at the site that came up number one in the SERPs. It was number one on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and just about every search engine I looked at.

I took a very good, hard, long look at this site. I checked PR. I checked backlinks. I looked at the content of the site. I looked to see how long it was around. I looked to see what keywords it was ranking for and which ones were contained in the domain name, if any. What I found was so astonishing that my jaw dropped to the floor after doing my analysis. Here are some of the low points.

The site had 9 backlinks. The site had a PR of 0. The site had one keyword in its domain name that was fairly relevant, even though it was also ranking for other keywords NOT in its domain name. The site had only one page of content that was so-so to say the least. I will say this much. The on page SEO was excellent. Every outbound link had proper anchor text. The site was only a few months old.

What was surprising about this number one ranking was that the site behind it had more backlinks, more pages, a higher PR and more content. The only thing it didn't have was a good domain name. It had no keywords in it. Could it be that a domain name carried that much weight?

But then I did other searches in other niches and found that sites with poorly chosen domain names were outranking other sites with good domain names. Digging deeper, I discovered one or two things about the top site that beat out the sites behind it...but they were always different.

Okay, here's my point and I hope, if nothing else, you get this. There is absolutely NO way to quantify a search engine listing. Some will totally baffle you. Think of the keyword "click here" and how if you look it up, you will find Adobe is the top site...one that doesn't have the words click here anywhere on the site itself. I won't go into the reasons for this here but suffice it to say, it's because of what OTHER sites do and NOTHING to do with what Adobe does.

There are way too many variables to SEO to be able to quantify what will make a site rank well or not. So your best course of action is to concentrate on ALL areas of SEO...on page AND off page. By doing everything possible to improve the ranking of your site, you will GIVE that site the best chance of succeeding.

The Best Internet Marketing Tips - Best SEO Tips

If you want to know some tips on how to do the best Internet marketing for better profitability, then read this one. This will give you some tips about the best SEO strategies that will promote the influx of more visitors in your website.

There is always a need to improve the site's web traffic. This is because without web traffic the online business will never have the chance to gain more profits and sales. Increasing web traffic is the primary aim of Internet marketing. So, when you already have web site that contains all the information of about your business, you need to find the best means possible so that this web site will be known on the Internet. This means that you need to market the web site.

It is very easy to market a web site. It doesn't require a big monetary budget in order for you the campaign to work. The most effective and the cheapest way to promote a website is through SEO or search engine optimization. The goal here is to gain top ranks in SE's like Google, MSN, and Yahoo. When your website gets the high ranks in these engines, you can be assured of better visibility and being on the first few pages in search results.

The best SEO tip is to constantly submit articles in directions and article submission sites. Prior to writing original articles for this purpose, make sure that these are related or relevant to the business niche that you belong to. Of course, you will never increase your SE rankings if you don't include backlinks upon submission. The backlinks are the best tools that will drive traffic to the web site. This is why you should never fail to include this in your submissions.

To make it more effective, it would be best to use anchor texts when you do backlinking. The keywords that can be found in the body of the articles can be good options for anchor texts. Note that every article must have keywords because this will used by the search engines to filter the articles when people are surfing for immediate data or information about topics related to your business.

Bookmarking is another method in doing the best Internet marketing. The task is very simple. The only thing that you need to is do create an account in various bookmarking sites and then submit the link of your web site there. The rest of the tasks will be done by the bookmarking sites. All you need to do is watch the tremendous influx of visitors in your landing page.

Usage of simple web links or backlinks is also very important in increasing the traffic to your website. These should be easy to remember and easy for the search engine robots to filter. Even though backlinks can do miracles in the increase of web traffic, it will still not work of these are hard to remember and to filter. You must remember all of these to achieve the best Internet marketing scheme that will attract more potential customers to your web site and increase your sales and profits.

SEO Tips - Plugins That You Should Have

SEO can be time consuming at best and a nightmare at worst. So if you're going to save some time and save yourself some gray hairs at the same time, there are some plugins that you probably should be using. This article is going to go over some of my favorites and why I think they're important to have. You may or may not agree, but I think you'll at least find this info useful.

At the top of my list is the Firefox browser. If you don't have it, download it and use it. Why? Quite simply because you won't find another browser with more useful plugins for SEO. Aside from that, you don't have nearly the number of security issues that you will have using Internet Explorer, regardless of what version you're using. Okay, do yourself a big favor...get Firefox and use it.

SEOQuake is the number one plugin that you should be using with Firefox. It has a number of useful features. However, we're going to use it primarily to get PR from the sites you're looking up. This is the fastest way I know of to get page rank. You want to use SEOQuake sparingly because Google, for whatever reason, has a problem with people using this hours on end. So limit its use to just when you need it.

Another important plugin is NoDoFollow. The reason this is such a great plugin is because it shows you every single link whether or not it's do follow or no follow. This is very important if you're looking to make blog comments in order to get backlinks to your site. The last thing you want to be doing is making comments on blogs that are no follow. It's simply a waste of your time.

You're also going to want to get the Selection Links plugin. What this does is it allows you to drag your mouse over multiple links in a search query and have each of those links open in a separate tab in your Firefox browser. This is great for when you want to do research on multiple sites and don't want to have to
click on each link individually.

There are many more plugins that you can get but these are the ones that are going to make your life a little bit easier when doing SEO. As I said, this can be a time consuming process and the last thing you want to do is waste time on tasks that can be done at the click of a mouse button.

5 Great SEO Tips

It's one thing to create a website, get attractive graphics, and input great content. It's quite another to get your page ranked well on major search engines, such as Google and Yahoo. Here are 5 great SEO tips which will help you get that high ranking, and ultimately get the traffic.

SEO Tip #1 - Get Quality Backlinks

Getting quality backlinks or inbound links to your website is one of the key ingredients to search engine optimization. The more backlinks you have to your site from other reputable sites, the more Google will favor your website. Try to get as many links to as many pages to your site as possible. When other websites are linking to your site, it tells the search engines that your website is valuable. The higher the page rank from these other websites, the better.

SEO Tip #2 - Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking has become a great way to gain exposure in the online world. Make it simple for readers to bookmark your pages by creating important links that major search engines value. In addition, you can submit your website to these social bookmarking sites to get some added exposure. Places such as digg.com or stumbleupon.com are a great start.

SEO Tip #3 - Article Directory Submissions

Submitting articles to article directories is one of the best ways to market your website, and gain valuable backlinks. Writing articles for these directories is useful in two ways. First of all, most of these directories allow you to include a link to your website in an author's resource box at the end of your article. This will allow the reader to link to your site from high ranking article directories like EzineArticles.com.

Secondly, webmasters from other sites may publish your article on these sites, along with the link to your website. Not only will you get links from the original article directory, but you will get links from these other sites as well.

SEO Tip #4 - Website Directory Submissions

This is another way of gaining exposure, and getting linked from many sources, which is exactly what search engines are looking for. There are literally hundreds of website directories out there for you to post your website on. Many of them are free, while others charge a small fee. Try to stick to the directories with higher Google page ranks.

SEO Tip #5 - Create a Sitemap

Sitemaps are a great way of letting the search engines know about all the pages on your site. You simply create a sitemap (through various sitemap generators available online), upload it to your public HTML folder through your web host, then submit your sitemap to the search engines, such as Google. This will make it easier to let Google know that your site is out there, waiting to be crawled by its 'spiders'.

Search engine optimization can take many forms. These are just some of the many ways in which to get your site ranked high, and gain valuable traffic. Be creative, put in the work, and eventually you should see your site crawl up the charts.

What Makes Bing Tick - SEO Tips For Bing Rankings

The majority of my readers will know that the formerly MSN search engine has changed over to Bing - Its new and has some great features. We will be looking at how websites will need to be optimised in order to achieve high rankings in Bing.

There are many areas which are common in SEO regardless of the search engine that you are working to achieve your rankings in, however Bing concentrates and puts more weight on areas which are different to that of Google.

Its without a doubt that I would always advise my readers to optimise for Google first as Google dominates the search engine industry, however achieving first page positions on Yahoo, Bing and other search engines can send masses of traffic your way.

With this in mind its very important to utilise Bing in our SEO quests.

How to optimise your website for Bing?
As usual its very important to have good Titles for your pages - so optimise your titles accordingly. We have some great articles in our blog area regarding onsite optimisation..

As with Google its also important to have sitemaps - good keyword density and the many other factors mentioned in the onsite optimisation article for Bing.

Bing also likes it when websites link out externally to relevant websites - Many people that practice SEO do not like the idea of having external links on their websites as they feel it will lower the Google page rank - As long as you have relevant external links then this should not be a problem - I would also recommend using the 'no follow' attribute for your outbound links so that no authority from your website will be passed to the outbound link.

Bing likes contents and text in the same way that Google does - the difference is that Bing likes more text - so try and keep your text on each page to at least 350 words. The majority of search engines do not consider the amount of text as a factor but Bing certainly does. So add more text it will help you for your Bing rankings.

Bing also puts alot of weight on the age of the website. So if you are thinking of creating a new website your better off buying an old domain for your Bing rankings.

Bing also pays much attention to your HTML coding so make sure its all validated. Close paired HTML tags and make sure your links are not broken - I would also recommend you make sure that your links open the correct page. If you have broken links on your website then the MSNBot might not be able to access your website properly - this will cause lack of indexing and Bing will not rank your website high in the SERPS.

If you have changed your web-page or website then make sure that you use an adequate redirect - so if its a temp redirect or a permanent redirect then make sure you use the right one.

As standard its very important to make sure MSNBot is authorized to crawl your website - with this its also important to use a robots.txt file. Dont forget that a robots.txt file is the first place of access for any search engine robots. Make sure that you have authorized MSNBot to access your website.

Finally work on your offsite optimisation - get plenty of quality backlinks and use your keywords as the anchor text. In the same way that Google treats a backlink as a vote for your website then so does Bing.

Social media plays a very big role for Bing rankings - so play an active role on Facebook - MySpace - use web 2.0 accounts such as hubpages - Squidoo etc - from my experience Bing loves social media and ranks websites very high in the SERPS when they activley use social media sites.

Social media is becoming even more important for Google too so its a great idea to start practicing it from now.

5 Essential Joomla SEO Tips For Beginners

Joomla is not search engine friendly by default. You need to put some work into improving this. The main thing that you notice when you start your SEO work on Joomla website is the URL or each page. The page URLs produced by Joomla are not search engine friendly. They have always query parameters, which doesn't give much information for search engines to properly index and rank those pages. When you do on-page search engine optimization, one of things you should pay a lot more attention is the URL of the page you want to optimize. It has to be informative and meaningful, well populated with keywords and preferably with ".html" extension.

1. Use Search engine friendly URL

To make your Joomla website's URL search engine friendly, you have a lot of options. The first one is to use the default Joomla's SEF plugin. By default this plugin is not activated, so you have to go to your global configuration page and activate that.
You can also use third party free or paid components that do the same thing with additional features. One of my favorite is sh404SEF.

2. Craft catch Page titles for all pages in your website

Most of the time, I see on Joomla websites with default title that say "Home". This is the title of the home page. Mostly beginners don't see that and the way you change that title also a little bit obscure at first. As you know, page title is one of the main on-site criteria considered by search engines when ranking web pages. So you should give your pages meaningful title with your main keyword included in it. To change this title, do the following:

a. Go to Menu Manager and click your main menu.
b. From the list of menu items, open the one that says "home"
c. Now on the right hand side of the screen there are a number of parameters you can change. Open "Parameters (System)" and change the field that say Page title to your desired homepage title and save.

3. Setup Meta data for every page in your website

Meta data may not have as much value in the eyes of search engines as used to have few years back but still you should do proper optimization work on them. When optimizing Meta data of a webpage. You should focus more on the description rather than keywords. You write good descriptions about your page, preferably 160 characters long. This description is the one you see on search engine result page under your title. So it has a lot of value to help your link in the search engine result page stand out. Of course if search engines cannot find relevant description in your Meta tag, they will try to extract some text from your article body on the page and use that as description on the search engine result page. However, you have the chance to decide what to put instead, so use this advantage to attract more visitor from search engines.

The major problem I see on lots of Joomla powered website is that they use one set of Meta description and keyword for all pages on the website. This is wrong! You should set up individual sets of description and keywords for every page on your website. You can still use the global configuration to set Meta data for the whole website, but you should add Meta data for every article you add from you're your article manager page.

To add Meta data for an article you just wrote, look at the right section of Article [edit] page to find fields for entering Meta data.

4. Take advantage of 404 error page pages

Most often you see a Joomla website with the default 404 error page with small information about the error and a link to home page. You should setup a 404 page, either using some sort of plugin or setup one manually. Include valuable resource on this page to direct the user somewhere back to your website. Or include search form that can be used by the user to get back on track. Or use some of the phrases from users query on the previous page and produce a search result page yourself. The point here is to avoid users from being frustrated by the mean error page.

5. Insert H1 Tags In Joomla

It's a good idea to make use of H1 tag as your article title decorator. It has some significance to wards convincing search engines that the page is actually about the keyword you have been mentioning starting from the page title. I know pages that do well without H1 tag, but who cares if you can get a little help on your SEO for little or no work. Go ahead and us H1 tags for your your articles' Title.
